Geochemical Modeling Workshop

Geochemical Modeling Workshop

A geochemical modeling workshop will be held before the opening of the meeting, during August 21 and 22, 1999. Y. Godderis will be the principal "instructor" and he will be assisted by F. Albarede and L. Derry. The maximum number of participants will be 30 people. You need to register for the workshop by e-mail to H. Strauss (see below). The cost will be $50 per participant, to be paid in cash at the beginning of the workshop. Do not send this fee to the LPI. Priority will be given to IGCP Project No. 386 members, since this IGCP Project acts as "stimulus" for this workshop. The principal idea is two half days of "theoretical" instruction including talks and a half day of practical work at the computer. The topical focus will be geochemical/isotope changes on short time scales in the Paleozoic, in accordance with the main theme of IGCP Project No. 386. For discussion and practical demonstration, existing and/or customized versions of box models etc. will be used. The participants should gain an understanding of geochemical modeling, sedimentary basin modeling, and the use of both for sampling strategies as well as for modeling atmosphere-ocean-crust interaction through time. If you have questions, or wish to register for the workshop, please contact the Workshop Organizer, H. Strauss, at Harald.Strauss@ruhr-uni-bochum.de.
